After his importation to the United States in the spring of 1967, Orzel was put into race training at Brusally Ranch. It took a while for the colt to settle into his new routine and adjust to American methods, including running on a dirt track—all of his starts in Poland had been on the turf. Trevor remembered “the crew struggling to saddle him in the paddock stall. The big horse was alternately trying to lie down or rear.” 97 And Tweed noted that while “the training [Orzel] received in Warsaw was of some help to him…when he arrived here, he was very much in need of training in this country, which we proceeded to have done at considerable expense before we could put him on the track.” 98
